Philip Rule KC is chairing the panel on “Data Privacy – Can we harmonise the collection and retention of Data throughout the Commonwealth?” which will include consideration of the Commonwealth’s Model Provisions on Data Protection (CMP) adopted in Mauritius in November 2021 and variable approaches adopted across the Commonwealth.

Philip’s panel will include the following speakers:

  • Immaculate Kassait, who was appointed in November 2020 as the first Data Commissioner of Kenya in the new Office of the Data Protection Commissioner;
  • Justine Collins, a partner at Hart Muirhead Fatta, in Jamaica, who has developed and lectures upon a Data Protection course at the Jamaica Stock Exchange e-campus; and
  • Roland Hung, a partner at the firm Torkin Manes LLP in Toronto, Canada. He is a member of the International Association of Privacy Professionals and an executive of the Privacy & Access to Information Law Section of the Ontario Bar Association.

Kawsar Zaman has been invited by the Secretary General of the Commonwealth Law Association to speak on the topic of ‘AI in the Workplace’.

The session will explore how AI works in the workplace, the tracking of data, the rights of the employer and employee, and the use of AI to measure productivity.

The panel will be chaired by Alison Holt, Adviser e-Judiciary at the Office of the Chief Justice Papua New with speakers including Anurag Bana, Senior Project Lawyer at the International Bar Association UK and Maria Mbeneka, Treasurer of the Commonwealth Lawyers Association.

Philip Rule KC’s panel is on Thursday 10th April 2025 at 1.30pm-3pm and Kawsar Zaman’s panel is on the same day at 11am-12.30pm.
