S Chelvan interviewed on German TV about the Calais Migrants

Thu, 30 Jul 2015

No5 member S Chelvan was interviewed for German television broadcasting company ZDF yesterday regarding the Calais Migrants.

Chelvan was specifically asked questions on how the migrants would be treated in the United Kingdom.  Concentrating on the asylum procedures in the UK, he highlighted the UK’s international obligations to provide refuge to those who feared persecution.

Chelvan highlighted the fact that the majority of those in Calais included asylum seekers from Eritrea, Somalia and Syria, but the numbers being processed in the UK were far smaller than the numbers in Germany or Sweden.

A link to the item (in German) can be found here, with Chelvan appearing at 3:25 – 3:40.
