No5 Barristers’ Chambers is thrilled to announce that Jo Sidhu KC has been awarded the Outstanding Achievement of the Year at this year’s Modern Law Awards.

Jo joined No5 as a door tenant in 2015 initially as a door tenant before becoming a full tenant. He is recognised as one of the leading King’s Counsel in criminal law and has extensive experience in homicide, terrorism, fraud and other serious crime. In the 2023 edition of Chambers UK, he is described as; “one of the best advocates in the business, phenomenal on his feet, very impactful and incredibly smooth”. Jo was the Chairman of the Criminal Bar Association 2021/2022 and was instrumental in the negotiations with the government over defence graduated fees which eventually resulted in an agreement being reached increasing the fees paid to defence barristers.

The Access Legal Modern Law Awards were first launched with the ambition of identifying and celebrating the very greatest talent and success stories in the UK legal sector. When one looks at the long list of Jo’s work inside and outside of the court room, there is no doubt that he is the very definition of this award.

Upon receiving the award, Jo responded: “I am delighted to receive the award for Outstanding Achievement of the Year 2023 from the Access Legal Modern Law Awards. It was a pleasure to share a fabulous evening with my fellow award winners, judges and guests at the Hurlingham Club in London. The Awards are a celebration of the contributions made by so many lawyers and law firms across a range of legal services and I warmly congratulate all those whose outstanding work has been recognised.”

CEO and Director of Clerking, Tony McDaid said: “We are delighted that Jo has received this award in recognition of his work over the last 12 months. His role in negotiating increased fees for defence barristers during the criminal barrister strike is just one of his standout moments in his commitment to the bar.”
