Suella is experienced in representing both developer and local authority at planning inquiry and in the High Court.
In 2012, she was listed by Planning Magazine as one of the top-rated Juniors under 35. In particular, she has:
- Successfully appealed against local authority decisions to enforce and/or to refuse planning permission, relating to a wide variety of issues: urban and rural, residential and commercial, green belt,
- Successfully defended planning authorities’ refusals of planning permission for a wide range of reasons relating to retail, residential, industrial, gypsy and travellers, listed buildings, conservation, trees.
- Acted for third parties such as Parish Councils and residents’ groups.
- Successfully prosecuted and defended breaches of enforcement notices in the Crown Court and Magistrates Court
- Represented applicants in Commons Inquiries,
- Challenged Inspectors’ decisions in the High Court
She also has expertise in local government law issues pertaining to:
- General contractual disputes involving local authorities
- Highways and nuisance
- Freedom of Information Act requests
- Complaints to the Local Government Ombudsman
- Village Greens
In December 2010, Suella was appointed by the Attorney-General to the Regional Panel of Junior Counsel to the Crown, with specialisms in Public, Planning and Local Government Law.
She is qualified to accept instructions on a direct access basis and is a member of the Planning and Environmental Bar Association.
Suella is co-founder and Chair of Africa Justice Foundation, an international development charity working to build stronger legal systems in Africa.
