Sajid specialises in commercial litigation and international arbitration. He receives instructions in a broad range of commercial chancery disputes, with a focus on arbitration, banking & finance, company and partnership, construction, and insolvency.

As well as representing clients in the English courts, Sajid accepts instructions in arbitration proceedings and has full rights of audience before the Dubai International Financial Centre (DIFC) Courts.

Arbitration

Sajid accepts instructions as both sole counsel or led by senior counsel in arbitration proceedings in London and abroad. He has experience in guiding clients through the entire arbitration process including nominating arbitrators, agreeing on rules, working with experts, drafting pleadings and making oral submissions at hearings.

Banking and finance:

Sajid is instructed by lenders and borrowers in debt enforcement, consumer rights and misselling claims. He has considerable experience in disputes involving consideration of FSMA 2000, FCA regulations and the Consumer Rights Act 2015.

Company and partnership:

Sajid is instructed by directors and shareholders in disputes involving complex issues of company law. His recent instructions including acting on behalf of a director in a derivative claim for breach of director duties; representing a NED in claim against a company for breach of contract and whistleblowing and acting for a shareholder in a claim against directors for failure to register ownership of shares in breach of the Companies Act 2006.

Construction

Sajid is instructed in construction disputes in London and the Middle East. He accepts instructions in the Technology and Construction Court as well as arbitration proceedings in England and abroad. His recent instructions include acting as junior counsel in a construction dispute in Oman and acting for a well-known construction company in a dispute over delays and defects in a large-scale apartment complex. Sajid takes a collaborative approach to working with clients and experts in disputes arising out of JCT, FIDIC and NEC contracts.

Contractual disputes:

Many of the cases on which Sajid is instructed are contractual or general commercial in nature. His recent instructions include acting on behalf of a publishing company in claims against parties in Europe and Middle East; acting for a theme park in a claim by a hygiene services provider; acting for a Polish IT Company in a claim for breach of a Sale and Purchase Agreement and representing a well-known Yacht Club in a claim by a former business partner.

Insolvency

Sajid is instructed by liquidators, individuals, directors and shareholders in proceedings in the Insolvency and Companies Court. His recent instructions include acting for the official receiver in a foreign jurisdiction in cross border insolvency proceedings to realise assets in Mayfair; acting for a debtor for an injunction against the presentation of a winding up petition; acting for liquidators in oral examination of former directors and representing a defendant in a claim for defrauding creditors.

Real Property

Sajid is instructed in a range of property disputes including disputes concerning commercial leases, mortgage, injunctions, land, ownership, trust, possession and disrepair.

Publications and Conferences

Sajid is regularly invited to speak at conferences around the world. He was invited by the UK Ministry of Justice to speak at events in the Middle East and Africa and was recently a speaker at the Chancery Bar Association’s BVI Conference 2023.

Sajid was the chair of a webinar co-hosted by the Asian International Arbitration Centre on the Supreme Court decision in Enka v Chubb and he has also hosted podcasts and webinars on arbitrator in partiality and smart contracts.
