Russell is a practising barrister, an Accredited Mediator and a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators through both the arbitration and mediation routes.
Russell has some 25 years experience as a practising barrister providing advisory and advocacy expertise across a wide spectrum of civil practice areas. The majority of his practice now relates to employment and business orientated disputes, particularly the breakdown of business relationships such as franchises, commercial agencies, distributorships and partnerships. He also undertakes stress at work / bullying claims, professional (non-medical) negligence and construction disputes.
Since qualifying as a mediator in 2004, Russell proceeded to study for a post graduate diploma in International Mediation at the London School of Commercial Arbitration (London University) and he was awarded a distinction in 2009.
Russell is a member of the Oxford Mediation Group and the International Mediation Institute.
Russell is a strong proponent of mediation as an alternative to litigation and he has mediated many disputes including those involving:
- Commercial agencies
- Employment
- Sports Law
- Construction
- Sale of goods
- Leasing agreements
In areas where he has specialist expertise (particularly employment law, commercial agency disputes, franchise disputes, stress / bullying claims) he is able to offer an evaluative mediation service where that is required.
Russell has business experience independent of the Bar.
