Melanie is a member of the Personal Injury and Clinical Negligence groups.
Her Pupil Supervisor is Richard Grimshaw, who specialises in high-value clinical negligence and serious injury cases for both Claimants and Defendants. Melanie has seen a broad range of work in the following areas:
• Brain injury and cerebral palsy
• Delayed diagnosis
• Misdiagnosis
• Spinal injury
• Cancer
• Surgeries and amputation
Melanie has seen and assisted in multiple death in custody inquests, including a five-day jury inquest. She gained experience in dealing with the intricate questions regarding the state’s duty to protect life pursuant to Article 2 of the European Convention of Human Rights. Melanie has observed many fast-track trials and High Court CCMC hearings while marshalling alongside her pupil supervisor in his capacity as a Recorder and Deputy Master of the King’s Bench Division.
She has also spent time under the supervision of other senior members of the PI and Clinical Negligence groups and has seen high-value personal injury cases involving:
• Serious orthopaedic and brain injuries
• Employer’s liability
• Highway Act claims
• Fundamental dishonesty
Throughout her pupillage, Melanie has gained experience in drafting pleadings, schedules of loss and opinions. She has also attended conferences with lay clients and medical experts, as well as joint settlement meetings.
