Maria has extensive credit hire experience (both claimant and defendant) and is regularly instructed in fast track, multi- track claims, appeals, and test cases. Maria is presently involved in cases in excess of 100,000 and in a test case before the Mercantile Court. Maria also undertakes advisory work and drafting in the area and is regularly instructed by CHO’s to advise on strategy and contractual issues.
In particular Maria has drafted many agreements on behalf of companies to ensure their compliance with the Cancellation of Contracts made in a Consumer’s Home or Place of Work etc. Regulations 2008 and The Consumer Contracts (Information, Cancellation and Additional Charges) Regulations 2013.
Maria is also a guest speaker at the CLT Credit Hire Conference annually and undertakes training sessions for many firms on the topic of credit hire.
Maria is willing to consider accepting instructions on a CFA basis where appropriate. Maria is also instructed directly by CHO’s in accordance with the Bar Council Direct Access Scheme.
In particular Maria deals with complex cases and issues concerning the enforceability of agreements, misrepresentation, fraud, subrogation and technical BHR arguments.
Maria is retained Counsel for a large PLC and advises on policy, procedure and litigation strategy at Board level.
Maria is registered to undertake work in accordance with the Bar Council Direct Access Scheme.
