A Chartered Quantity Surveyor, Accredited Mediator and TECBAR accredited Adjudicator, Jonathan was called to the Bar in 2008 after an extensive career within the construction and engineering industries. Jonathan combines strong commercial, analytical, advisory and advocacy skills with a pragmatic and approachable manner. He undertakes work in the following areas:

- Process/Technology/IT/Public Utilities
Jonathan has 29 years’ experience in the construction industry, having worked for 8 years as a contractor’s quantity surveyor and a further 10 years as a consultant specialising in all aspects of construction law. After having been in Chambers for 8 years, Jonathan recently spent 3 years as a Partner at construction specialist solicitors, Fenwick Elliott.
Jonathan draws on this extensive range of experience and his significant knowledge and expertise in the field and practises exclusively in all matters relating to construction and engineering. His technical, commercial and professional background assists greatly in almost all facets of his practice.
Jonathan has experience of all aspects of construction and engineering disputes including claims relating to valuation/payment, defects, delay, loss and expense, and professional negligence matters. He has particular experience relating to: delay/extension of time matters; claims for loss and expense; final account matters; certification issues; disruption claims; defective work; subsidence and tree root related damage; general property damage claims; party wall matters and matters relating to the Party Wall Act; professional negligence; and negligence and nuisance claims.
Jonathan has extensive experience of adjudication, arbitration, mediation and other forms of ADR. He is able to advise, draft and represent parties in all forums. His experience has involved all the major standard forms of contract such as JCT, NEC, ICE, FIDIC, MF/1. Jonathan’s 29 years in the industry has given him extra insight into the business, finance and commercial world and enables him to give specific advice as to the most appropriate and cost-effective dispute resolution strategy in any given situation.
Jonathan is an Accredited Mediator and accepts appointments on a personal basis as Mediator.
Jonathan is an Adjudicator accredited by TECBAR.
Jonathan regularly takes instructions via the Licensed Access Scheme and is approved for Direct Public Access work.
Jonathan is regularly in instructed in all stages of County Court and TCC listed matters from the pre-action and pleadings stages, through the hearings and interlocutory stages, and on to trial.
Together with enforcement proceedings, Jonathan has been instructed in various adjudication proceedings and has extensive experience in all aspects of the adjudication process. He has experience of preparing submissions during the course of proceedings, together with acting in hearings.
Jonathan has also been instructed in a number of arbitration matters and regularly acts for parties in mediation.
