James has a varied practice ranging across different areas that have a public law element which is valuable in the context of education law.
He has experience of dealing with appeals in relation to admission, special needs and exclusion both in terms of advocacy and advice. He is experienced in relation to judicial review including appearing at Court of Appeal level.
Areas of practice in this area include: issues around SEN, exclusions, admission, public law duties (including judicial review challenges), issues arising from policy, the impact of human rights/ fundamental rights in this area including the ambit of Article 6 in the disciplinary proceedings, the impact of equality legislation.
Has experience of dealing with issues of disclosure and the management of information as they impact upon those working within the sphere of education.
He also practices in employment law and therefore appreciates the overlap between that and education law including discrimination in it different forms and how EU law can impact.
