Alice joined No5 in October 2021, having completed pupillage.
Alice appears regularly in the Employment Tribunal. She has represented claimants and respondents in claims for unfair dismissal, breach of contract, discrimination, trade union detriment, unlawful deductions from wages, holiday pay and protective awards, and in respect of preliminary issues such as worker status and time limits.
Outcomes include an award of 28.5 weeks of wages for a failure to dismiss or provide work, a finding that a tiler was a worker and a five-figure settlement for a disabled hospital kitchen worker who had been suspended on full pay after taking sick leave.
Alice also advises on liability and quantum, and drafts pleadings, schedules of loss and witness statements.
During pupillage, Alice was supervised by Jack Feeny. She principally worked on discrimination, whistleblowing and TUPE matters in the ET and EAT featuring public sector respondents, such as NHS trusts and Government departments, as well as large private sector employers. She also assisted on a number of litigated matters on behalf of police officers involving police pensions and pay, and public law and personal injury cases in an employment context.
Before practising as a barrister, Alice spent two years in the legal department of a trade union, representing members in their employment tribunal matters. She also worked as an immigration advisor and has drawn on this experience where immigration status has had a bearing on claims.
Alice speaks French and Japanese.
