Abid has more than 25 years’ experience as a barrister and has been sitting as a part time judge since 2006. He has an eclectic practice covering general common law. He also has experience in cases involving an overlap between commercial disputes and administrative law. He has appeared at levels from the County Court and High Court through to the Supreme Court.
Commercial litigation
Abid has experience in partnership: dissolution and winding up involving significant factual issues. Recent cases include contested trials concerning significant debts arising out of the supply within a wholesale context and actions via banks in respect of agreements/loans.
Estates, trusts and tax
Abid specialises in contentious probate, in particular on issues of upholding or challenging the validity of wills under the Inheritance (Provision for Family and Dependants) Act 1975. He is experienced in areas of Court of Protection work including: Statutory Wills, the removal and appointment of Deputies and costs of deputies. He is variously instructed by the Office of the Public Guardian, individuals and Deputies in such cases and has also acted for Government Departments, including in cases with an international element.
Property
Abid has undertaken cases involving the beneficial ownership of property, encompassing issues of proprietary estoppel, undue influence and constructive trusts. Recent cases include the crossover between the Trusts of Land and Appointment of Trustees Act 1996 and section 37 MCA.
