Senior Judge Hilder will be the guest speaker at a Birmingham seminar that will focus on legal issues within the Court of Protection.
No5 Barristers’ Chambers is hosting the seminar at the Clayton Hotel, on September 12, providing an update on the health and welfare and property and affairs case law as well as looking at mental capacity law.
Five barristers from No5’s Court of Protection team will speak during the event, and will be joined by her Honour Judge Hilder, Circuit Judge, Senior Judge of the Court of Protection.
Other guest speakers will include Dr Camillia Kong and Rebecca Stickler, from the Institute for Criminal Policy Research (ICPR), who will give a talk entitled Judging Values and Participation in Mental Capacity Law: The Role of Legal Practitioners.
No5 barrister Adreeja Chatterjee said: “Previously, No5 has been proud to welcome the former President of the Court of Protection, Sir James Munby to our annual seminar.
“This year, we are delighted that Senior Judge Hilder, whose career began at the Birmingham Bar, will join us for this event to share her eagle-eyed view from the top, which we believe will prove invaluable to delegates.
“Along with the insight from Camillia and Rebecca, from the ICPR, about individuals who are the subject of Court of Protection proceedings, and how they participate, the day will certainly be a thought-provoking event.”
Adreeja will also be joined by Varsha Jagadesham to give a talk rounding up recent decisions in the Court of Protection on health and welfare issues.
Other speakers will include Mike O’Brien who will give a talk entitled “Liberty Protection Safeguards: The New Law” in this important area of law which is being reformed, while Ian Brownhill will give a talk entitled “Crossing the Lines – the interplay between the Court of Protection and other Jurisdictions” to consider crossover areas such as education. Jake Rylatt will give a talk entitled “From Execution to Severance: Property and Affairs Update” which will cover recent important case-law on financial matters for those subject to the Court of Protection.
