No5 Barristers’ Chambers are delighted to announce that Paul Joseph has been appointed by the Lord Chancellor as a Deputy Costs Judge of the Senior Courts Costs Office in London.

Paul is an established and recognised costs specialist. He has considerable experience in issues arising out of the pre-action Protocols and the fixed costs regime. As counsel on the Attorney-General’s panel he is regularly instructed on behalf of the Government on complex costs issues, such as those arising out of the many claims against the Ministry of Defence brought by Iraqi civilians following the invasion of Iraq in 2003. Chambers and Partners 2021 say that “Paul is always well prepared and knows a lot about the nuts and bolts of costs work”.

Mohammed Zaman QC, Head of the Business & Property Group at No5 Barristers’ Chambers, commented, “We congratulate Paul on his appointment as a Deputy Costs Judge. It is a recognition of his pre-eminence in this field. The directories rightly describe him as ‘a hugely experienced and wise costs barrister with a strong technical knowledge’ and he will continue to lead in this highly specialised area.”
