No5 Planning Silk comes out Top in Survey

Mon, 02 Jul 2012

Martin Kingston QC has topped Planning Magazine's annual poll of the most respected barristers in the planning and environment field.

No5 Chamber's barrister Martin Kingston QC attracted the most nominations for Queen's Counsel whose work "exemplifies best practice in planning law" in Planning Magazine's survey that received responses from solicitors, barristers and planning practitioners.

Responses for Martin Kingston included:

'Feared for his "relentless probing" of opponents' cases, Kingston is heavily involved in energy projects, advising councils around the Hinkley Point and Wylfa nuclear sites and promoters of new nuclear build at Sellafield and energy-from-waste plants in Manchester and Derby. Other casework includes urban extensions in Houghton Regis, Bedfordshire and Aylesbury and projects for Sainsbury's.'

Ian Dove QC and Jeremy Cahill QC both also made the top rated silks list, coming in 3rd and 11th respectively.

No5 fared well in the top rated juniors 2012 category with Chris Young (6th), Peter Goatley (8th), Hugh Richards (11th), Richard Kimblin (16th), Celina Colquhoun (22nd), and Satnam Choongh (46th) all making the grade.

In addition to the top Silks and Juniors lists, No5 showed a strong presence in the "Top Juniors under 35" category, adding weight to No5's future place in the planning and environmental area of law. Jack Smyth (called 2007) climbed to 7th place this year, whilst Thea Osmund-Smith (called 2010) and Suella Fernandes (called 2005) made impressive debuts to the list, appearing in 12th and 14th position.
