Counsel at No5 Barristers’ Chambers was part of the prosecution team in a trial which found a Black Country man guilty of murdering a 34-year-old father. The killer was given a life sentence and will serve a minimum of 26 years.
Tim Harrington was involved in the three-week trial of Nabeel Choudhary, 21, of Hope Street, West Bromwich, at Birmingham Crown Court.
The jury, who took less than two hours to reach a unanimous verdict, found Choudhary guilty of murdering Yasir Hussain, from Burnley, after ramming his car and fatally stabbing him. The victim was stabbed three times in the back as he tried to escape.
Co-accused 24-year-old Akarsh Tasleem, of Broadway West, Walsall, was acquitted of murder. He was also acquitted of possessing a machete.
The court heard a van had rammed the car outside the Golden City takeaway, in Lower Gornal, on December 4, 2018. Choudhary’s DNA was found on the van’s gear stick.
At least seven men jumped out of the van wielding machetes, knives and metal bars, the jury heard. The prosecution told the court that Mr Hussain had been a “sitting duck” when the attack took place.
Morrad Hussain, Mr Hussain’s cousin, who is believed to have been the intended target, escaped on foot and raised the alarm.
The jury was told that Mr Hussain was the victim of a year-long feud between two families. However, Mr Hussain was visiting family in Dudley at the time of the attack and had not played any part in the long-running feud.
The jury heard that Choudhary had also been involved in an attack on November 26, when he drove into a separate victim on Shaw Road.
Choudhary was also convicted of attempted grievous bodily harm and dangerous driving on November 26 but found not guilty of possessing an imitation arm with intent.
