Congratulations to Nina Pindham on being presented with a Climate Law & Governance Global Leadership Award during the CLGI Climate Law and Governance Initiative Day at COP27. Nina was recognised for her work as Vice-Chair at UKELA and for engaging bar associations in climate law solutions and practice in the UK, Canada and globally via the IBA Climate Law Coalition. Co-laureates include Dr Patricia Kameri-Mbote, Legal Director, UNEP; Ms Janine Felson, Senior Negotiator, AOSIS; Estelle Dehon KC; Co-Chair Climate Crisis Working Group, Bar Council of England and Wales; and Lungisani Zulu, Chair, Law Association of Zambia and Senior Counsel of the Bank of Zambia.
While at COP27 Nina worked alongside the International Bar Association, American Bar Association, Brazilian Bar Association and the Law Society of England and Wales to collectively host a conference which unveiled a global committee of bar associations to coordinate conversations, assemble best practice examples, and examine a lawyer’s duties when advising clients on climate-related issues. They also organised an official side event examining the legal sector’s role in tackling climate change. She participated in a panel unveiling an initiative to develop a toolkit for investment in Africa’s transition to net zero and co-hosted the final High Level Plenary during COP27’s Climate Law and Governance Day alongside Steven Gray, Legal Director, DLA Piper.
