Michael Duck QC and Michelle Heeley prosecute car theft conspiracy

Mon, 16 Jun 2014

Jennifer Ings, 24, Wellington, has denied conspiring to steal cars between July 2012 and September 2013 and concealing stolen cars between February and September 2013.

Birmingham Crown Court heard that Ings, and her partner Jangheer Khan, were seen to be using a stolen BMW car in July 2013. The jury saw surveillance recordings, which show Ings behind the wheel of the car on two occasions, as it arrives at a rented garage near her home.

Recordings also show Khan arriving at the garage in the car on several occasions, and on 29th July shows several men inspecting the car with Khan, before it was sold for £10,000 cash.

Michael Duck QC, prosecuting, says that a gang had legally acquired accident-damaged cars, which were rebuilt with parts from several stolen cars, then sold on for a profit. Khan and three other men pleaded guilty to involvement in the conspiracy, and two other men admitted conspiring to handle stolen car parts.

The trial continues.
