Commencing from Monday 19th October at 09.45 on BBC Radio 4, No5 planning barrister, author and presenter Hashi Mohamed will be examining social mobility in the UK.
Based upon his own experience, Hashi will be exploring questions of race, class, education, language and integration. In this week-long series Hashi opens with an episode titled “Three Hashis” where he will be describing the events that brought him and his family from Somalia, to Kenya and then to London.
Hashi said: “throughout the week I will be tackling the complex relationships between race and class, education, language and elaborate on what might be possible, with a little imagination and determination.”
Earlier this year Hashi launched his debut book, People Like Us: What it Takes to Make it in Modern Britain in which he uses his own life experience to reflect on modern Britain, social mobility and the challenges that still face children from deprived areas.
The series complements a school’s initiative where the publisher, Profile Books and Hashi are giving away 300 copies of People Like Us to schools across the UK. Schools can apply HERE to receive up to three copies.
