Gareth Evans QC and Philip Rule defend murder retrial

In December 2011 the client was convicted of murder but this was quashed in February 2015 following a successful appeal brought by Philip Rule to the Court of Appeal (Criminal Division). Mr Rule was instructed for the appeal and had not acted below.

In December 2015 the retrial has been defended by Mr Gareth Evans QC and Mr Philip Rule.

The case concerns the killing of a 17 year-old girl by her boyfriend, then aged just 19. The trial issues concerned the defence of loss of control and of diminished responsibility.
