Imtiyaz Patel, 28 is on trial accused of starting a fire at Cloud Nine, Leicester, a rival café to his business Unit Café.

Patel denied arson and recklessly endangering lives on the first day of the trial at Leicester Crown Court on Friday, 12th July.  He allegedly used a crowbar to enter the locked café, removed the CCTV camera hard drive and deactivated the intruder alarm. A couple of weeks later, a bag was discovered with the hard drive and cigarette lighter in it, in a dustbin two doors away from where Patel’s brother lived, and where his car is registered.

Patel initially denied involvement. He admitted knowing where the hard drive was kept, and that the green bag was his.

The trial continues.
