Deputy District Judge Appointment for No5 Barrister

Fri, 13 Aug 2010

Richard Case, a leading barrister at No5 Chambers, has been appointed as a deputy district judge by the Lord Chancellor following a rigorous application process through the Judicial Appointments Commission.

He has been assigned to the South Eastern Circuit with effect from 06 August, and will sit part-time presiding over civil cases in the County Court, including: contract, consumer credit, landlord and tenant, housing and personal injury hearings.

Richard Case is a member of both the Personal Injury and Employment groups at No5 Chambers, and his appointment takes the total number of part time judges at the set to 33.

Head of Chambers, Mr Paul Bleasdale QC, commented: “This appointment recognises Richard’s skills to perform as a judge in respect of his intellectual capacity, integrity, sound judgment, decisiveness and communication skills.

Commenting on his appointment, Richard Case said: “Being a deputy district judge will give me an insight into the effectiveness of a variety of advocacy styles, the pressures faced by judges dealing with a busy County Court list and how I can tailor my advocacy as a barrister accordingly.”

Since being called to the Bar in 1996, Richard Case has been involved in dealing with particularly complex employment disputes and personal injury cases.

He has particular knowledge and experience of representing public transport employers and of claims involving allegations of fraud and the fabrication of evidence. Mr Case also has a broad range of experience acting for claimants and defendants in employers’ liability, public liability, road traffic, occupiers’ liability and Fatal Accidents Act claims, which reflects his intellectual rigour and assessment of the law and evidence.
