Dangerous driver who bragged about speeding at 146mph jailed for killing student

Harpreet Sandhu prosecuted a dangerous driver jailed for killing a student by hitting her in his car while travelling at twice the speed limit.

Abdul Sujac, 22, from Stratford, was jailed for six years and three months after admitting causing the death of 19-year-old Laura Ann Keyes by dangerous driving. He will also be disqualified from driving for five years and have to pass an extended test to regain a licence.

Sujac had been driving his father’s black BMW at speeds of up to 68mph in a 30mph zone when he struck Miss Keyes, a student at the Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance, on November 30, 2017. She had been celebrating the end of term with friends.

Southwark Crown Court heard that Sujac was a habitually dangerous driver who had some 4,000 recorded clips his (and others’) exploits on his telephone, many of which were posted on the social media and messaging apps Snapchat and Whatsapp.

Mr Sandhu said his phone had 'footage of [him] driving at excessive speeds (and seemingly revelling in doing so), undertaking and overtaking and driving on the wrong side.'

In one clip, he was caught at 146mph chasing an ambulance across London.

Just months earlier, Sujac had been penalised for knocking down and seriously injuring a pedestrian near Westfield Shopping Centre but he was handed only a fine and nine points by Thames Magistrates’ Court after admitting careless driving.
