Christopher Young QC acts to secure permission for a new private school and sports academy

Mon, 15 Jul 2019

Christopher Young QC advised and presented the case for the Rushmoor and St Andrews Schools in Bedford who have decided to combine, expand and relocate to a new site on the edge of the town.  The proposal also includes a new rugby academy and tennis academy together with indoor courts.

The main issue surrounded the traffic implications of the new school on the congested northern gateway into the town.  A Planning Inspector appointed by the Secretary of State allowed the appeal and granted planning permission for the school.

The appeal decision can be viewed here.

The Council applied for costs against the school. This was rejected by the Inspector. The costs decision can be viewed here.
