He was rushed to Heartlands Hospital and declared dead just after arrival. Christopher Hotten QC, prosecuting, said that medics were “alarmed by the bruising they saw to his body”

Keanu’s mother, Rebecca Shuttleworth, 24 , from Manchester and her boyfriend Luke Southerton, 31, from Birmingham deny murder.

At the opening of the case at Birmingham Crown Court, Mr. Hotten QC claims that the boy sustained his fatal injuries after they arrived at Mr. Southerton’s flat on 7th January.

He said "No medical help was sought for this child until he was dead.

"The fact that neither (defendant) sought help until it was too late is potent evidence that both knew the injuries were incapable of sensible explanation.

The trial is expected to last three months.
