Chloe Ashley appears in Special Court convened to consider how whole-life orders are imposed.

No5's Chloe Ashley, who acted as junior Counsel in the trial of Thomas Hughes last year appeared together with leading counsel, Bernard Richmond QC at the Special Court this week as directed by the Lord Chief Justice. Mr Hughes case was joined together with that of Wayne Couzens, Jordan Monaghan and Ian Stewart.

The special court of five judges: Lord Chief Justice Lord Burnett, Dame Victoria Sharp, Lord Justice Holroyde, Mr Justice Sweeney and Mr Justice Johnson began on the 4th May 2022 and is expected to last two days.

The Court will review the sentence of Mr Hughes, which is also challenged by Attorney General and consider how rare whole-life orders are imposed.

The Court’s decision is expected to be delivered at a later date.
