No5 Barristers' Chambers - Excellence is at the heart of everything we do.
Background

Maxwell Cope

Call: 2019

Maxwell Cope has developed a strong personal injury practice, acting for both claimants and defendants across matters ranging from the small claims track to the multi-track.

Alongside his personal injury practice, Maxwell has a background in criminal law, acting as junior alone in serious Crown Court trials and as led junior in complex prosecutions involving the National Crime Agency. That experience has strengthened his handling of disclosure, factual disputes and advocacy under pressure, skills which directly support his personal injury work.

Prior to pupillage, Maxwell worked as a County Court advocate with LPC Law, giving him an early grounding in civil procedure and courtroom advocacy that continues to inform his practice.

Expertise

Personal Injury

Maxwell Cope acts for both claimants and defendants in personal injury matters ranging from the small claims track through to the multi-track.

His practice encompasses road traffic accidents, employers’ liability, public liability and occupiers’ liability. A significant proportion of his work involves credit hire claims arising from personal injury litigation, including Stage 3 and OIC hearings.

Maxwell is regularly instructed in higher-value claims and has frequently beaten defendants’ Part 36 offers at trial. He is instructed to advise on liability and quantum, draft pleadings and schedules, and appear at hearings and trials. Experience on both sides of litigation enables him to identify key issues quickly and advance focused, persuasive submissions.

He works closely with solicitors and is known for providing clear, practical advice and progressing cases efficiently.
