Matthew Wyatt

Matthew Wyatt is currently undertaking a specialist Criminal Pupillage, under the supervision of Matthew Brook. During this time, Matthew has gained extensive experience in the Crown Court, observing both prosecution and defence work.

Matthew has strong links to the Midlands, having grown up in Warwick and undertaken his legal studies at The University of Law in Birmingham. Prior to joining No5, Matthew worked for Warwickshire County Council as a Legal Assistant in their Planning & Litigation Team. Whilst there, he assisted in providing advice, drafting documents, preparing prosecutions and appearing in court on behalf of the local authority.

Matthew also carried out freelance work in the County Court, developing a body of experience by appearing for Claimant’s in small claims trials and possession proceedings. In undertaking this work, Matthew has a good grounding in oral advocacy, case preparation and thinking on his feet which will be of great assistance as he begins practice at the criminal bar, commencing his second six in April 2024.



Matthew is due to commence the practicing period of his pupillage in April 2024.

During his first six, he has had the benefit of observing and assisting in a broad range of work in the Crown Court for both the prosecution and the defence, including trials of a complex and high-profile nature.
