Marika is undertaking a pupillage in the Public Law and Immigration Groups, under the supervision of Danny Bazini (Head of the Immigration Group).
During pupillage, Marika aims to gain experience in a broad range of immigration matters – from asylum to business immigration cases – as well as in areas of public law including education law, prison law, inquests and inquiries, and community care.
Prior to joining Chambers, Marika was a paralegal in the Public Law and Human Rights team at Irwin Mitchell LLP, working primarily on actions against the police and inquests. She worked on cases involving unlawful stop and search, false imprisonment, assault, and malicious prosecution, and assisted with the Court of Appeal case of XGY v Chief Constable of Sussex Police & CPS [2025] EWCA Civ 1230, regarding advocates’ immunity. In relation to inquests, Marika assisted with the Sara Sharif inquest, as well as inquests relating to deaths in custody and in medical settings.
Marika was previously a Legal Associate at Richmond Chambers LLP, assisting barristers with a wide variety of both “personal” and “business” immigration applications, appeals, and judicial reviews. Marika frequently drafted advice and legal submissions relating to spouse/partner cases under Appendix FM, private life cases, the EU Settlement Scheme, long residence, sponsor licensing and work visas, the Global Talent route, and citizenship cases including both naturalisation cases and registration cases for adults and children.
Before and while undertaking the Bar course, Marika worked as a Research Assistant at Law Commission of England and Wales, researching areas of law ranging from property and planning law to children’s rights. She also drafted legislative instructions to the Office of the Parliamentary Counsel to help shape new legislation.
In her spare time, Marika enjoys swimming and surfing, and has recently started learning K-pop/K-hip-hop choreographies. She is fluent in Japanese, currently learning Levantine Arabic, and hoping to revive her once conversational French and German.
