Lukas Hamilton Eddy

Prior to coming to the Bar, Lukas Hamilton Eddy worked in a number of foreign legal jurisdictions.

This included a placement at the United Nations International Criminal Tribunal for the Former Yugoslavia (ICTY) in The Hague. Here, as part of a team, he assisted in drafting the judgment in the trial of former Serb General, Ratko Mladić.

Following this he also spent a number of months working at the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions in Fiji, preparing respondent submissions in major appeal cases.

He is a practising Attorney (Texas) and undertakes a variety consulting work primarily in the field of construction health and safety, while his U.S. legal practice primarily consists of employer’s liability and construction law.

Hamilton Eddy speaks German fluently and in light of his multi-jurisdictional experience, welcomes matters of an international nature.

As a keen shooting sports enthusiast, he is familiar with all aspects of firearms law and currently sits on the Executive Committee of the UK delegation of the Conseil International de Chasse (CIC).

Expertise

Personal Injury

Since joining Chambers, Hamilton Eddy has established and developed a broad personal injury practice. He regularly appears at trial for Claimants and Defendants in Fast Track work. His broad experience encompasses road traffic accidents, employers’ liability, Highways Act and other public liability claims. He is well versed in credit hire and has represented interested parties at inquests in the Coroner’s Court.

In his extensive paperwork practice he advises in relation to liability, procedure and settlement as well as drafting pleadings. Advices on complex quantum issues are a speciality. Hamilton Eddy takes a client focussed approach and if special requests, such as an urgent turnaround time is required, he will always do his best to meet such requirements.

Tying into his Regulatory experience, insurance fraud is a particular interest and he has provided training to leading solicitor and insurer clients considering the different legal remedies available to counter the growing prevalence of staged accidents, exaggerated personal injury claims and low velocity impact collisions. At trial he has frequently dealt with cases in which fundamental dishonesty is alleged.

Police Misconduct

Hamilton Eddy regularly receives instructions from the Police Federation, representing officers in Gross Misconduct Hearings as well as in the Criminal Courts. Cases have included public order offences, contraventions of the Data Protection Act and sexual harassment.

Inquests & Inquiries (Personal Injury)

Tying into both his experience in personal injury and professional misconduct, Hamilton Eddy has appeared in a range of Coroner’s Court matters, including those in a clinical and road traffic accident setting.
