
Jake Acock is a member of the Business & Property group at No.5 Chambers, specialising in chancery, property and commercial work. Jake is frequently instructed on matters beyond his level of call.
Jake has developed a busy practice in the High Court and County Court in a variety of trials and hearings. Jake is experienced to act in all stages of a claim and has experience in dealing with high value matters. Jake has a busy practice drafting pleadings and providing written advice, often in complex cases. Jake has appellate experience in both the County and High Court, and recently drafted grounds of appeal for the Court of Appeal.
Before coming to the Bar, Jake worked as a lecturer and tutor at both University College London and the London School of Economics in contract and tort law. At LSE, Jake was recognised for his outstanding teaching by the Dean of the Law School, with all of Jake’s students rating his teaching as excellent. Jake regularly gives lectures and training for clients and solicitor firms.
Jake was awarded scholarships by Gray’s Inn for both the GDL and Bar Course. Jake earned the highest grade in his year for tort law on the GDL and ranked among the top ten students for contract law. In his Bar studies, Jake earned the highest grade for civil advocacy in his year.
Jake also believes in helping pro bono causes. This year, Jake is recognised on the pro bono list for England and Wales for volunteering over 100 hours to pro bono causes, including Advocate (the Bar’s national pro bono charity).
In his spare time Jake enjoys baking and travelling, and frequently finds himself doing escape rooms.
Jake is developing a specialist business & property practice with experience in both the High Court and County Court. Jake is often instructed on complex matters combining contract, property and trust law, whether as sole counsel or as part of a led team. Outside of court, Jake provides advice conferences, drafts statements of case and provides written advice. Jake is regularly instructed on matters beyond his level of call.

Jake is developing a strong practice in Real Estate litigation and is frequently instructed on property matters in both the County and High Court.
Jake practises in all areas of property law, from possession claims to multi-track trials involving complex areas of law. Jake has experience in commercial landlord and tenant matters (including claims under the Landlord & Tenant Act 1954), dilapidation matters, easement disputes, breach of covenant, contractual interpretation of leases, boundary disputes, and equitable remedies such as specific performance, rectification or rescission. Jake also deals with residential landlord & tenant matters.

Jake has a broad practice in commercial litigation and is frequently instructed on matters involving breach of contract, formation of a contract, mistake, and equitable remedies such as specific performance, recession, rectification and equitable damages. Jake also represents clients in cases involving misrepresentation, frustration and contractual interpretation.
Jake draws on his experience from lecturing in contract law at LSE, which clients find is valuable to all cases he is instructed on. Jake has been described as bringing a very practical approach to commercial matters and is therefore instructed on giving advice in complex commercial cases, both in writing and in conference.

Jake is well-equipped to help with any commercial or contractual matter. He has a particular focus on breach of contract, contractual interpretation of clauses, and misrepresentation. Jake is often instructed on complex cases where there is a combining trust, contract and property matters.
Jake is beginning to build a practice incorporating construction disputes, in particular construction disputes involving contractual issues and misrepresentation. Jake’s latest work in this area includes providing advice on breach of contract for a housing renovation and drafting a Defence for breach of contract.
Jake has expertise in trust matters and is frequently instructed on Inheritance Act disputes arising from claims under the Inheritance (Provision for Family and Dependants) Act 1975, claims of proprietary estoppel, and claims to substitute or remove executors and trustees.

Jake is developing a strong practice involving claims involving defamation, malicious falsehood, breach of confidentiality, harassment, and misuse of private information.
Jake lectured on the law of defamation at UCL and regularly provides tutorials in universities and to clients on the law of defamation.
