Hannah Court

Hannah Court is a dedicated and experienced barrister, specialising across a wide area of family law. With a strong focus on disputes relating to financial relief following separation and both private law and public law disputes relating to children, she brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to her practice. Hannah also has experience of acting in matters relating to the Trusts of Land and Appointment of Trustees Act 1996.

Hannah prides herself on her consistently meticulous preparation of a case and ensuring the best possible outcomes are achieved for her client.

Hannah was called to the Bar in July 2015 after having achieved a First Class Law degree and her performance being graded as ‘Outstanding’ on the Bar Professional Training Course. Subsequent to being called to the Bar Hannah undertook the Bachelor of Civil Law at the University of Oxford, where she enhanced her knowledge, analytical ability and legal research skills.

Matrimonial Finance

1973 and proceedings brought under Schedule 1 Children Act 1989, such proceedings often featuring cross-applications under TOLATA 1996. Hannah brings comprehensive expertise to navigating the complexities of such financial matters arising from divorce or separation.

Hannah has many years of experience in dealing with a number of complicating issues often arising within disputes of this nature. Such complicating issues to include: the existence of complicated trust funds and significant pension assets, disputes relating to beneficial interests in properties, applications for avoidance of dispositions, assertions of ‘sham’, applications for freezing orders and disputes relating to business valuations. Hannah also has experience in variation and enforcement applications following the conclusion of matrimonial finance proceedings.

Hannah’s approach is rooted in a deep understanding of the relevant legal principles, meticulous preparation of a case and a strategic mindset aimed at securing optimal outcomes for her clients, whether through negotiating settlements or representing clients in court. Hannah prioritises her client’s financial well-being and long-term stability, whilst also striving to achieve the most cost-effective outcome.

Private Law Children

Hannah has developed a vast amount of experience in Private Law proceedings. Within her Private Law practice, Hannah has often successfully challenged the recommendations within a Section 7 report where these are not accepted by her client. She has also successfully challenged the recommendations of an expert psychologist and persuaded the court not to accept the same following cross examination. Hannah also has a wealth of experience of appealing orders made within Private Law proceedings.

Hannah has been instructed multi-day fact finding hearings involving a number of serious allegations to include: physical violence, sexual abuse (to include the most serious forms), child sexual abuse, honour- based violence, coercive and controlling behaviour, psychological abuse, financial abuse and parental alienation.

Hannah takes on a compassionate approach to client representation and works tirelessly to to secure the best possible outcomes for her clients.

Public Law

Hannah acts for Local Authorities, parents, and children throughout all stages of Public Law proceedings. She has also previously represented the interests of extended family members within such proceedings.

Hannah has been instructed in cases featuring a number of complicated issues to include: neglectful parenting, drug and alcohol misuse, sexual abuse, parental alienation, FII, non-accidental injury, DOLs. Hannah has experience of representing client’s with significant learning disabilities and communication difficulties and is adept at delicately, compassionately and professionally handing such situations. Hannah is committed to approaching such proceedings with sensitivity and diligence, striving to secure the rights and welfare of vulnerable children and families.
