
Afiya is an employment barrister with a broad practice encompassing the full range of statutory and contractual employment law matters. She acts for both Claimants and Respondents and is regularly instructed in complex and multi-day hearings before the Employment Tribunal. Her practice has a particular emphasis on discrimination and equality law.
Afiya is an employment law specialist with experience acting for both Claimants and Respondents across a range of employment matters. She is regularly instructed in cases before the Employment Tribunal and the Employment Appeal Tribunal.
Afiya’s practice covers the full spectrum of employment disputes, including unfair dismissal, discrimination (race, sex, disability, religion and belief, age), harassment, victimisation, whistleblowing, redundancy, equal pay, and employment status issues. She has a particular interest in discrimination cases, especially those involving sensitive factual backgrounds or limitation issues.

Beyond her litigation work, Afiya provides practical and tailored advice to employers and employees on all stages of the employment relationship.
She also delivers training to solicitors, HR professionals, and organisations on current employment law developments and best practice in promoting equality, diversity, and inclusion in the workplace.

Afiya also accepts instructs to advise on liability and quantum, draft pleadings and draft schedules of loss.
Afiya has a developing clinical negligence practice. She accepts instructions from both Claimants and Defendants, and has experience of drafting pleadings, representing parties at inquests and advising in respect of both liability and quantum.
Afiya has a particular interest in inquests and represents interested parties in a range of matters.
Most recently, Afiya represented the bereaved family in a 4-day inquest concerning the death of a man as a result of a one-punch manslaughter incident.
Afiya also carries out clinical negligence inquests, her most recent inquest being a 3-day inquiry into the death of a woman following a failure to close the tap and bung on a catheter.
Other recently completed inquests include: (1) representing the family, at an inquest, of a man who fell during his hospital stay and (2) representing a man who collided with a drunk driver.
