Serena Sekhon has been awarded a Pegasus Scholarship by the Pegasus Scholarship Trust of the Honourable Society of the Inner Temple.

This prestigious scholarship is awarded to junior barristers in England and Wales to enable them to learn about legal practice in other common-law jurisdictions and develop links with legal practitioners overseas. Serena has been awarded a scholarship to Washington DC, facilitated by the American Inns of Court Foundation.

Serena will travel to the USA in October for six weeks, where she will observe hearings, meet lawyers and judges, and gain insight into the American legal profession and system.

No5’s Head of Public Law, Philip Rule KC, said:

“The Pegasus Scholarship is a highly competitive, Inns of Court-sponsored international scholarship awarded to outstanding junior barristers. It recognises excellence in advocacy, professional achievement, and leadership potential, and provides advanced legal experience in overseas common law jurisdictions.

We are delighted that Serena has been recognised for her excellent achievements to-date, and chosen to represent the English and Welsh Bar in this important exchange of experience and building of relationships across the common-law world.

Serena, who was called in 2021, has been building a very successful practice, across several of our core practice areas in the Public Law group, and related Immigration work, since completion of pupillage at No5, and she has built a deservedly strong reputation for the quality of her work.

Being selected signals that senior members of the profession consider her to be among the most promising junior barristers, and entrusts her with this experience where she will not only learn from this foreign jurisdiction but also act as an ambassador for the Bar of England and Wales and the Inns of Court.

We commend and congratulate Serena upon her award, and we share the same full confidence in her abilities and character as she continues to excel in her practice.”

Lucas Bennett, Public Law Practice Manager, said: “We are incredibly proud of Serena as she embarks on this exciting and well-deserved Scholarship in Washington DC. It’s fantastic recognition of her achievements and career to date. We wish her every success as she takes this exciting next step and look forward to welcoming her back upon completion.”
