Siobhan Collins leading Philip Vollans successfully prosecuted Deago Martin, Connor Donaldson, Keelan Brookes, Kaine Simmonds, Rhiannan James and Courtney Lloyd for offences connected to a shooting in Ombersley Close, Redditch.
In March 2024, police attended Ombersley Close following shots being fired. Following an investigation, police identified Deago Martin and Keelan Brookes firing at each another due to tensions concerning their competing drug lines. The shots fired penetrated a parked car which was occupied by members of the public at the time. One bullet narrowly missed the child seat within.
Both men left the area, with Keelan Brookes being assisted by others to evade the police. Deago Martin was located by police and found with a different loaded firearm to that used during the shooting.
After an 11-week trial the jury convicted all defendants of their involvement in the events.
Deago Martin was convicted of offences including possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life and attempted GBH. He was subsequently identified to be a dangerous offender and received a life sentence.
Keelan Brookes was convicted of attempting to cause GBH, possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life and being concerned in the supply of cocaine and cannabis. He received a sentence of 14 years’ imprisonment.
Connor Donaldson received a sentence of 12 years for supplying heroin, crack cocaine, cocaine, cannabis and assisting an offender.
Kaine Simmons received a sentence of 7 years for offences relating to the supply of crack cocaine, cocaine and heroin and assisting an offender.
Rhiannan James was convicted of being concerned in the supply of cannabis and assisting an offender. She received a sentenced of 2 years, suspended for 2 years.
Courtney Lloyd was convicted of assisting an offender She was given a sentence of 20 months. suspended for 2 years.
Detective Chief Inspector Ben Arrowsmith said: “It is important to remember the complete disregard Martin and Brookes showed when they discharged firearms without any thought for the potential danger of their actions and the devastation it could have caused.
“I would like to commend the team who worked tirelessly to bring those responsible to justice and their work has exposed two drug lines that supplied drugs into Redditch.”
