It is with great sadness that we announce the death of one of our members. Graham Henson, passed away earlier this week at his home.
Graham had been unwell for a period of time but had borne it with his usual combination of good humour and courage.
The phrase “the Bar needs characters” is often used – this phrase was designed for Graham. He was, without doubt, one of the great characters of the Birmingham Bar. Called in 1976 he spent the majority of his career with No5.
Graham was an individual with a sharp intellect and an advocate of the highest quality. He was one of the best defenders of the, apparently, entirely hopeless. He simply didn’t recognise this concept and produced results which were unimaginable at the start of the trial. He was also an utterly fearless advocate but, whatever the case, Graham dealt with opponents, and judiciary, with charm and professionalism.
He was a thoroughly decent man who cared passionately about the welfare of his clients, both lay and professional.
No5 has lost one of its great advocates – we will miss him.
