The Personal Injury and Clinical Negligence Group are delighted to share that Matthew Sherwood is undertaking his pupillage under the supervision of Steve Fisher and Jodie Kembery. Over the past 6 months, Matthew has gained broad experience across both areas of law. He holds a First Class LLB from the University of Nottingham and completed the Bar training course at Nottingham Law School.

Alongside his legal journey, Matthew built a successful business as a self-employed personal trainer, developing a large and committed client base. In his spare time, he remains committed to his physical fitness regimen, participating in MMA and bodybuilding training. He also runs social sessions for young adults with autism spectrum disorder, aimed at fostering social engagement and collaborative play.

Matthew will be available to accept instructions from the 3rd May 2026.

“I am delighted to be moving into my second six at No5 Barristers’ Chambers, having completed a varied and rewarding first six under the expert supervision of Steve Fisher (Personal Injury) and Jodie Kembery (Clinical Negligence).

During my time in Personal Injury, I was exposed to a wide range of work, from small claims and fast-track road traffic accidents and credit hire matters through to more substantial multi-track cases. This breadth of experience has provided a clear picture of the work I hope to develop in my own practice. I have also received a thorough grounding in the complexities of costs, which has been invaluable, and I feel well prepared to deal with the practical demands that second six will bring.

My Clinical Negligence seat has been equally engaging. I have had the opportunity to observe joint settlement meetings, conferences, and even a rare trial, all offering insight into the complexity and importance of this area of practice. With the guidance of my supervisor, I have been able to refine my drafting skills, strengthening my confidence in written work.

Throughout my first six, I have been supported not only by my excellent supervisors but by members and staff across Chambers. The collegiate environment at No5 has made me feel welcomed and has been instrumental in my development to this stage. I have also benefited from attending a number of seminars hosted by AvMA, Lime Solicitors, and Chambers itself, which have further strengthened my understanding of both practice areas.

I am grateful for the guidance and encouragement I have received and look forward to building on this foundation as I begin to develop my own practice in second six.”
