Melanie Mills has been awarded the prestigious outgoing Pegasus Scholarship from the Honourable Society of Inner Temple.

The Pegasus Trust aims to facilitate links between the UK and other common law jurisdictions by enabling Barristers to learn about the practical workings of different legal systems and build long lasting connections with lawyers and communities within their host locations.

Melanie successfully applied for the scholarship last year. She will travel to Wellington, New Zealand where she will undertake a placement with leading set, Thorndon Chambers. She will gain insight into the workings of the New Zealand legal system and multiple areas of legal practice ranging from commercial to constitutional matters.

Upon her return in Spring 2026, Melanie will resume acceptance of instructions as a member of both the Personal Injury & Medical Negligence and Business & Property Groups.

Heads of Personal Injury and Clinical Negligence Henry Pitchers KC and John Coughlan KC have provided a comment on Melanie’s placement. “We are incredibly proud that Melanie has secured a place on the prestigious Pegasus Scholarship scheme.  This reflects her hard work and talent as a junior member of the Bar and represents an exciting opportunity for professional and personal development.  We look forward to hearing about her experiences in New Zealand and welcoming her back later in the year.”

Daniel Griffiths, Practice Director for Business and Property and Director of Clerking in Birmingham has also said, “we are delighted that Melanie has been selected to undertake the Pegasus Scholarship in New Zealand. This is a highly regarded programme and a fantastic opportunity for Melanie to broaden her Commercial & International experience and enhance her burgeoning Business & Property practice”.
