Michael Burrows KC and Cathlyn Orchard, instructed by West Midlands Complex Casework Unit, have successfully prosecuted Seeraj Ayub for the murder of 19 year old Ali Riyan who was fatally shot while riding pillion on the back of an e-bike. The defendant was the driver of the rented Mercedes from which the fatal shot was fired. The defendant’s defence at trial was that he was not the driver, and was not aware of any plan to shoot the victim or of the presence of the gun used. Through a meticulous examination and presentation of the evidence, the prosecution were able to demonstrate convincingly to the jury that the defendant was lying.
