Philip Rule KC, leading Michael Polak of Church Court Chambers, acted for Bertrice Pompe. They were instructed by Stuart Luke of Luke and Bridger solicitors.
Ms Pompe is a displaced Chagossian who speaks for many other UK resident Chagossians who are opposed to hand over of the islands from which they were wrongly removed and which are now being handed to Mauritius, a country which does not share the same ethnic and racial heritage, without properly engaging with and considering the position of the Chagossian people.
Whilst an Order was initially granted to stay the government’s signature of the deal this was discharged by Mr Justice Chamberlain. The Secretary of State argued that the matter will be placed before Parliament and it may now choose whether to reject the proposed deal.
