Senior member of No5 Barristers’ Chambers Ian Bridge is quizzed by the host of “The Building PodcastMark Wakeford, Chairman of the National Federation of Builders on the subject of enforcement action by the Health and Safety Executive in the construction industry. Ian has worked on numerous Health and Safety Cases over more than 25 years.

Have you ever wondered how an HSE prosecution works, or how it feels to be caught up in one?  Would you know how to protect your position, when there is plenty happening that you are unfamiliar with and under the pressure of an HSE investigation?  Hugely respected barrister, Ian Bridge, takes us though the processes that the courts and HSE follow and explains some of the lessons that others have learned the hard way.  Ian’s advice is run your company so that you do not find yourself defending serious accidents or deaths at work.  These measures and controls will both make accidents less likely, and also give some protection from the largest penalties.  If you do find your company in the terrible position of suffering a major accident, then speak to your insurers and get yourself some specialist legal advice as quickly as possible.  Early advice can help in both cases of a personal or corporate defence.

I hope that listeners never have to go through this process and that they keep all their employees and stakeholders safe.  However, for those that want to know just in case then this podcast makes for interesting listening.
