Baldip Singh, instructed by Arti Maini of Duncan Lewis Solicitors, and Susan Todd, instructed by Shazia Saliheen of National Legal Service, successfully represented the father and the mother respectively in a fact-finding hearing, achieving a remarkable outcome in a highly sensitive case involving allegations of serious child abuse, physical injury, and a fracture to a 4-week-old baby.
Through their advocacy and skilful presentation of evidence, they exonerated the parents, resulting in the Local Authority returning the child to their care after nearly nine months of separation.
Reflecting on the case, Baldip said:
“As lawyers, we can sometimes become desensitised by the demands of our work. However, cases like this remind us of the need to approach our clients with empathy and simplicity. When representing individuals who speak little to no English, have no understanding of the justice system, and feel completely out of their depth, it’s crucial to break down barriers, ensure they feel heard, and guide them through what is often an overwhelming and alien process.”
