Mr P attended the Emergency Department of a Midlands hospital on two occasions displaying symptoms that should have been identified as an acute flare up of undiagnosed inflammatory bowel disease. Instead, despite his significant symptoms, including watery bloody diarrhoea with clots and abnormal blood test results, Mr P was sent home with a diagnosis of gastroenteritis on two occasions. When he was finally admitted to hospital, it was too late for medical treatment to be effective and unfortunately, Mr P required emergency life-saving surgery, leaving him with an ileostomy (stoma) for life. Mr P and his young family have been devastated by his injuries, which will have a substantial impact on him for the rest of his life.
Commenting on the settlement, David Evison stated that,
“We are very pleased to have been able to resolve this very upsetting case on behalf of our client. Our client has been severely impacted by the repercussions of the negligent care he received, which will have lifelong consequences for him. This settlement will allow him to have the support he needs and the financial security in order to be able to meet his needs in the future.”
