No5 Barristers’ Chambers are proud to support the 10,000 Black Interns initiative, which offers university students and graduates of Black heritage an opportunity to gain paid experience throughout a range of UK Industries.
This is the third year that we have welcomed interns to Chambers from the scheme and this year’s intern, Tia Richards has just completed two weeks working alongside barristers from our Criminal and Personal Injury Teams.
During her first week, Tia attended a Murder Trial in Wolverhampton with the leader of the Midlands Circuit, Michelle Heeley KC. In week two her time was split between a murder trial in Coventry alongside Mark Heywood KC and Olivia Whitworth, and a Road Traffic Accident Personal Injury case with Afiya Amesu who has said:
“It was a real privilege to have Tia from the 10,000 Black interns programme shadowing me and some colleagues in the Crime Group over the last two weeks. As we strive to make the Bar a more accessible and inclusive profession, internships such as these allow students to see what barristers to day-to-day and be inspired to pursue their own career at the Bar. I am really proud that No5 is actively playing a role in facilitating and organising opportunities such as these“
