Two 12-year-olds yesterday became the youngest defendants in history to be convicted of knife murder in a trial prosecuted by Michelle Heeley KC. The jury at Nottingham Crown Court heard evidence over the course of a month which detailed how the young defendants had regularly researched and been in possession of knives.
On the evening of 13th November 2023, they encountered Shawn Seesahai, an Anguillan national who had been visiting the UK. After a brief exchange of words one of the boys pulled out a large machete, the boys then proceeded to stab, punch and kick Mr Seesahai, fatally wounding him with a blow to the heart. The defendants were the youngest to be convicted of murder since the trial involving the death of James Bolger.
The case involved several young witnesses and defendants. Michelle was instructed due to her experience in Vulnerable witness advocacy. She worked with Peter Grieves-Smith of the CPS, instructed by Jonathan Roe.
The sentence has been adjourned til next month.
