No5 is delighted to announce that Richard Hadley and Matthew Brook will be appointed as King’s Counsel by the Lord Chancellor, taking the number of Silks at chambers to 41.
Richard Hadley is Head of the Family Group at No5 Barristers’ Chambers. Called to the Bar in 1997, Richard specialises exclusively in matters relating to children, where he regularly appears at all levels of the Family Division. His caseload consists of the most complex and sensitive care proceedings where he represents many local authorities throughout the country in addition to his representation of parents and children.
Called to the Bar in 1999, Matthew Brook is one of the few Counsel based in the Midlands who is on the CPS Counter Terrorism list as well as being one of the go to Prosecutors for the Complex Casework Unit be it multi-jurisdictional drugs cases or gang related murder. He is equally comfortable defending where his prosecutor’s knowledge help him take advantage of weaknesses in cases especially where disclosure is concerned.
No5’s Chief Executive and Director of Clerking, Tony McDaid said, “We are thrilled that both Richard and Matthew are to be appointed His Majesty’s Kings Counsel. They are experts in their fields of practice and deserve the recognition that the award of KC brings to them. Our aim has always been to develop the best Barristers to be the best they can be and create a centre of excellence for Advocacy and Advisory work across all sectors. In recent months we have been awarded Chambers and Partners Regional Set of the Year and Clinical Negligence Set of the Year.
All of these landmark events are indicative of the fact that we are firmly on track with our aims and objectives to the benefit of the clients who instruct us and without whom none of this would be possible. This comes at an exciting time for No5 who on the back of a move to Savoy Court in London are in the process of moving our Birmingham office to the landmark building at 103 Colmore Row for the next chapter in our 100 year plus history”.
