No5’s Serena Sekhon recently attended the 10th Geoffrey Nice Foundation Masterclass in Dubrovnik, Croatia, entitled “Accountability for War Crimes in Ukraine: What Will Work?”
The Masterclass covered different approaches to seeking accountability for war crimes and mass atrocities, including prosecution at the International Criminal Court, prosecution via Hybrid Tribunals, and less formal mechanisms such as people’s tribunals and truth commissions.
Speakers included Lord Iain Bonomy, Sir Geoffrey Nice KC, Andrew Cayley KC and Professor Dr. Ksenija Turkovic, former Judge at the European Court of Human Rights. There were also talks by Yuriy Belousov, the Head of the War Crimes Department in Ukraine’s Prosecutor General’s Office, and Anton Korynevych, the ambassador-at-large in Ukraine’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Serena was awarded a scholarship by the Inner Temple to attend the Masterclass.
