A former Special Constable from the Met Police was today acquitted of all charges having been defended by Michelle Heeley KC.

In a case brought by the CPS on the basis the defendant had abused his powers and “raped a stranger” the jury returned not guilty verdicts on counts of Misconduct in Public Officer, 3 counts of rape and one of causing a person to engage in sexual activity.

The court heard from the complainant and an eye witness and from the officer himself who explained the nature of the consensual activity that took place that evening.

The case made headlines across the UL and was cited as another example of police abusing their powers, however the jury rejected that argument, leading to Mr Hoile’s acquittal.
