No5’s Laura Davidson has published a chapter in a new book titled – Mental Health, Legal Capacity, and Human Rights (Michael A. Stein, Faraaz Mahomed, Vikram Patel and Charlene Sunkel (Eds.) (Cambridge University Press, 2021).
Laura’s Chapter is entitled ‘From Pipe Dream to Reality: A Practical Legal Approach Towards the Global Abolition of Psychiatric Coercion’. She argues that the Committee on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities must issue a general comment to give tacit approval for the progressive realisation of rights under Articles 12 and 14 of the Convention to enable the complete phasing out of compulsory psychiatric detention.
