Prosecution of an 18 year old defendant for the murder of a 19 year old student who lived on the same road in Leicester during lockdown. The deceased died as a result of a single stab wound, inflicted by a weapon the defendant was alleged to have purchased from associate who lived locally. The defendant alleged that he was acting in self-defence when he delivered the fatal blow which pierced the deceased’s heart – the jury rejected that defence. Tragically the deceased died on the street despite the strident efforts of both members of the public and the emergency services to save him. The defendant was sentenced to custody for life with a minimum term of 19 years.
